Hi Billy thank you so much for sharing this post. You are very honest and rational and bring nuance and shades of grey to the table. I am possibly about your age? 65 and a lesbian. I have never had a sex identity crisis however I do understand how for some people this has been a defining issue in their life. To be honest I didn’t know that much about trans gender people until the last decade. Ofcourse I knew lots of men liked to dress up as women in my early days of going to gay bars in Oxford Street. Back then these guys were seen as female impersonators having fun and entertaining people. I wonder if that term is now considered politically incorrect? A lot of these people may have actually been trans but I didn’t know. I also knew plenty of masculine women however in those days they were simply butch dykes. Again sorry of that is now PI. The whole thing wasn’t as out in the open as it has been for the last couple of decades. I live in another world now and I’m a grandmother however I have been fascinated to learn that being a lesbian feminist apparently makes me a TERF. I had to look that word up to find out what it means. I am not a TERF though because I really support everyone’s right to live how they choose as long as it doesn’t hurt others. I have found out that the women being called TERFs have concerns about the medical transitioning of younger folk. They also don’t believe that someone can truly change their biological sex. I appreciate hearing from people who have transitioned because really they are the ones with lived experience of this. I think it is sad that there is currently a division between the trans movement and feminists in particular lesbians. Ultimately I believe we want largely similar things. For people to be safe, respected, supported and to be free to be themselves. As a young lesbian that is all I ever wanted. I was thinking that one of the concerns of women is the safety issue of not sharing spaces with Trans women. Then I was thinking how if you went into a women’s space now, say a female bathroom, women would probably freak out because you look like a man. Yet you were born a woman. It is all about perception. It is also very confusing and for many confronting. There in comes the division. Trans people and feminists or so called TERFs need to find common ground and work together to tease out the truth of what is really behind this division. No doubt women are threatened by men who identify as women coming into their shared spaces with good reasons. History has a way of informing our prejudices and fear. Yet somehow the argument has been taken over by corporations, greed and other malevolent interests to tear us apart when we should in reality be allies. I have been shocked to see young people screaming at women old enough to be their Mums about how awful they are. It is like these young scared confused people have been weaponised against feminists. Who is really behind this though and what is the end purpose? Something is at play here and we can only turn the tide by shining light on where it needs to be. You sound like you are trying to do this. Thanks Jazz

Thank you Jazz, i am 62 so we are very close and have very similar experiences as gay women. When I transitioned all my lesbians sisters hated me and called a traitor hahaha. At the time it hurt my feelings and I pretty much transitioned alone. But looking back this is what started my journey of independence and building a thick skin. It is so sad how the divide is getting pretty deep. I agree it is a plan. Divide and conquer as they say. I am just going to keep my faith in humanity and know it will clean itself up and the bad evil energy will be swept away and we can all go back to living our lives.

Thank you for reading and the awesome comment.

Thanks Buck 💜🫶🏽 I look forward to learning more about the trans versus TERF issue and how lesbians, feminists and gay and straight men can all work together with the trans community to unravel the conflicts we appear to have. I really hope we can all come together and understand and love each other because there are a lot of young people out there right now being negatively affected by this. Also I am really sorry you weren’t supported when you were younger and decided to transition to be true to your gender identity choice. That sucks and should NOT have happened to you. I respect your decision and really it is no one’s business but yours. I do note you were an adult when you made this choice and I feel that is important. I think a lot of parents want their kids to grow up as in turn at least 18 before making such life changing decisions. Still that is another story and another discussion. Thanks again for sharing your truth Buck. Jazz 🙏

As for the article... Amen and Amen!

My fav quote is

"We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are..."

Aines Nin

What other people think of me is none of my business. It is their own deep seated insecurities and the rigidity of their own group that disavows anyone who attempts to evolve snd grow.

🙏 Buck... Thank You for using your platform for awareness and good! Much love and protection to you and yours! 💜

This Billy Bragg one is absolutely unhinged full time. This whole thread proves that transexuals are able to grow and change their views/stances while haters who can't do it are the real monsters, trans or not.

Oh there's clearly an underlying something. You can't be that hateful and angry for no reason.

I personally don't have the energy nor the interest to dig deeper though.

PS: I followed the whole drama a bit and it's sad to see how people don't understand that what you said years ago isn't what you believe now (or that you even said you were a man with the same grain of salt you use today). Like they have a gotcha moment because you called yourself a man 10 years ago.

Yes, I refer to myself as a woman when intent and purpose is of social nature. That doesn't mean I suddenly believe I changed biology!

This whole biological male and biological females terms used to be pretty self explanatory. What is actualy meant is, reproductive organs. Their are transsexuals born male with no biological functions of their sex. They has SRS. They're women who take testoserone and still have female reproductive potentional. These male who take estrogen and keep their biological functions.

This is what's caused most of women's concerns. Who is what!

Its pretty deep now so I think we had to come full circle back to biology because of the bad players in the trans community.

There isn't a trans community Buck. They're is now a bunch of bad actors agreed, but those activists expanding definitions away from biology has been happening for well over a decade. Expanding what biologicaly and anatomicaly what is societies accepted definitions. Who society adopts and who especialy women adopt. They're is also so much misinformation, and misinterpreted information. Especialy by GC. If the trans activists won't accept the real science. Then others have to tell the masses. With accuracy and compassion. Without reasons than GD doesn't exist.

We are entering a new era where the equity demands of actvists even within trans won't wash. Their will be a need for maybe a sliding scale of rights. Dependant on many factors, including phenotype, and even sexual orientation. A full risk assement across society. Independent of ideology.

In the meantime those that don't pass, which is the majority will have to work on that aspect. As it was in my time.

It's an act of courage to really go deep and *honestly* come to terms with who we really are. It's a sober maturity a lot of people simply don't have, and it can an extremely uncomfortable experience to finally achieve that, I've done it myself in my own way,and I respect you greatly for this, though I'm a new follower. True humanity. Fuck the haters, they don't get it.

As geneticist Baron Robert Winston stated on the BBC years ago, we unequivocally cannot change sex, so trans is a fraud & transphobia impossible, perhaps if RTA weren't so life-threateningly misogynist women wouldn't be so defensive, Rowling only spoke up to ask not to be trivialized to bodily function & got hate for hoping trans could safely live their best lives #terfisaslur & cis ideology (also from HER).

I'm guessing you don't mind being called a man though? There was some other substack post recently where a woman explained that she used female pronouns for you because you're awesome and she wanted lesbians to be able to "claim" you (in, like, the good, fun way) and I was like "No he's ours mwah-ha-ha!" and it was all in love & respect, so I hope that sort of thing wouldn't offend you. There should be more transsexuals who are awesome and self-aware enough to have both sexes fighting to claim them!

You aren’t a man, but you are also an adult, and I personally don’t care if you think you are a man, and mutilate yourself to Cosplay a man. Go for it.

But don’t expect me to jump on that bandwagon and agree with your delusion. I won’t go out of my way to offend or belittle you, but don’t expect me to oartivioate in your delusion.
